Bile salts are biosurfactants released into the intestinal lumen which play an important role in the solubilisation of fats and certain drugs. Their concentrations vary along the gastrointestinal tract (GIT). This is significant for implementation in physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modelling to mechanistically capture drug absorption.

Extended Lichtenstein Repair for an Additional Femoral Canal Hernia.

The Lichtenstein procedure is one of the most performed surgeries worldwide. However, proper examination to exclude a femoral hernia is often not performed, resulting in a high number of missed hernias. For patients in whom a femoral hernia is suspected pre- or intraoperatively, we describe a novel surgical technique of a femoral extension to the classic Lichtenstein repair.

Two attractive reconstruction methods, especially in large abdominal wall defects, are full-thickness abdominal wall vascularized composite allograft (AW-VCA) and nonvascularized rectus fascia (NVRF) Tx. This review compares surgical technique, immunology, integration, clinical experience, and indications of both techniques.

Unravelling the Hepatic Elimination Mechanisms of Colistin.

Purpose: Colistin is an antibiotic which is increasingly used as a last-resort therapy in critically-ill patients with multidrug resistant Gram-negative infections. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the mechanisms underlying colistin's pharmacokinetic (PK) behavior and to characterize its hepatic metabolism.

Methods: In vitro incubations were performed using colistin sulfate with rat liver microsomes (RLM) and with rat and human hepatocytes (RH and HH) in suspension.
