Pheochromocytoma and Adrenocortical Carcinoma: Morphological Characteristics in Endoscopic Ultrasound Imaging.

Pheochromocytoma (PCC) and adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) are two rare endocrine diseases. Early diagnosis is crucial to significantly reduce morbidity and mortality. In this study, we used endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) for high-resolution imaging to investigate the endosonographic morphology pattern of PCC and ACC.

Evaluation of TRPM (transient receptor potential melastatin) genes expressions in myocardial ischemia and reperfusion.

In the present study, the expression levels of TRPM1, TRPM2, TRPM3, TRPM4, TRPM5, TRPM6, TRPM7, and TRPM8 genes were evaluated in heart tissues after ischemia/reperfusion (IR). For this study, 30 albino male Wistar rats were equally divided into three groups as follows: Group 1: control group (n:10), Group II: ischemia group (ischemia for 60 min) (n:10) and Group III: IR (reperfusion 48 h after ischemia for 60 min and reperfusion for 48 h). The expression levels of the TRPM genes were analyzed by semi-quantitative reverse transcriptase-PCR.

Cytomorphological changes in buccal mucosa of patients treated with low-level 1,064-nm laser radiation.

The aim of this study was to examine the cytomorphological changes occurring in the buccal mucosa in patients treated with low-level 1,064-nm laser radiation. Seventeen individuals (12 males, five females) 18-24 years of age were included in the study. Low-level 1,064-nm laser radiation was applied to the right buccal mucosa near the premolar region; this therapy was repeated for 10 days.

Case report: extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the parapharyngeal space.

We report an unusual case of primary extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the parapharyngeal space. Clinical presentation looked like right peritonsillar abscess and hypoglossal palsy. After histologic study of his biopsy, this 19-year-old man was given a diagnosis of diffuse large-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Clinical analysis and results of operative treatment of 41 brain abscesses.

In this study, 41 cases of cerebral abscess operated on in our clinics between 1977 and 1986 were investigated retrospectively. The surgical strategy and the factors affecting the mortality rate were discussed. It was confirmed that the most important factor affecting the mortality rate was the consciousness level of patients in the preoperative period.
