The nitrate and nitrite contents in a whole day's hospital diet during the spring season.

It was decided to evaluate the exposition of patients on nitrates and nitrites contained in 6 whole day's standard hospital diets taken in various days. Studies were performed in June 1995. It was found that the mean daily intake of nitrates was 311 mg and the mean intake of nitrites were 2.

[Value of nitrates and nitrites in selected vegetables and potatoes sold in the marketplace of Białystok in the years 1991-1992].

Nitrate and nitrite contents were determined in selected vegetables and potatoes from the market in Białystok and from ecology cultivation in the years 1991-1992. The modified Griess method was used for determination of nitrate. The results showed that the nitrate contents in red beets, cabbages, parsley, carrots, celery and potatoes, were higher than the suggested limit in Poland.

Nitrate and nitrite were determined in early vegetables and potatoes sold in Białystok in 1992. The levels of nitrates and nitrites were determined in 248 samples. Nitrate and nitrite were evaluated spectrophotometrically by the method of the Griess reaction, after reduction of the nitrates to nitrites, with cadmium dust.

The interactions of copper, lead and ethanol in rats: effects on some biochemical parameters of blood.

The aim of this paper was to investigate the action of copper on some biochemical parameters of blood of Wistar rats exposed to a combined action of lead and ethanol. The animals received lead in drinking water (500 micrograms/ml) for 6 weeks, followed by copper (12 micrograms/ml) for 2 weeks. During the last 108 h of the experiments the rats received every 12 h an intragastric dose of 5g/kg of ethanol.
