Apple snails of the genus Perry, 1810 (Mollusca: Caenogastropoda: Ampullariidae) are native to the Neotropics and exhibit high species diversity, holding cultural and ecological significance as an important protein source in Peru. However, most genetic studies in have focused mostly on invasive species, especially in Southeast Asia, where they are considered important pests. In this study, we assembled and annotated the mitochondrial genomes of two species native to the Peruvian Amazon: Ampuero & Ramírez, 2023 and (Deville & Hupé, 1850).

Zika virus appeared in South America in 2015, generating alarm worldwide as it causes microcephaly and autoimmunity. This study aims to determine the serological footprint of the incoming epidemic in a student community and to characterize the memory functional cell response during post convalescence. In a cross-sectional study, Zika-specific IgG using LIA immunoassay was found in 328 university students (CI=95%), while in the second phase, the functional cellular memory response for IFN-γ and IL-2 was quantified using post-stimulus ELISpot with inactivated virus, starting with individuals seropositive for Zika and control individuals (seropositive only for Dengue and seronegative for Zika-Dengue).

Objective: To assess the impact of capacity-building interventions introduced by the Oman National AIDS Programme on the quality of HIV care in the country.

Methods: HIV viral load (VL) suppression and loss to follow-up (LTFU) rates were calculated for the period before (in December 2015; n=1098) and after (in June 2017; n=1185) the introduction of the interventions: training, support, and care pathway development. Three HIV VL cuts-offs at last measurement in the year of interest were used to define VL suppression.

The bottleneck in data acquisition during biological dosimetry based on a dicentric assay is the need to score dicentrics in a large number of lymphocytes. One way to increase the capacity of a given laboratory is to use the ability of skilled operators from other laboratories. This can be done using image analysis systems and distributing images all around the world.

Introduction: The prevalence of hereditary ataxia in Holguín, Cuba, is 43 per 100,000 inhabitants, but in some regions reaches 503 per 100,000 inhabitants, a figure never previously recorded in the international literature.

Objectives: To evaluate the part played by non-cerebellar structures and vias in causing some of the clinical signs of the disorder by means of clinico-electro physiological correlation.

Patients And Methods: A neurological examination, peripheral nerve conduction studies and somato-sensorial evoked potentials of the median and posterior tibial nerves were done in 70 patients with type 2 spinocerebellar ataxia.
