Introduction This quality improvement (QI) initiative aimed to improve the clinical documentation of daily progress notes in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) by applying a standardized documentation template and conducting regular cycles of audit and feedback to ensure compliance and improvement. Methods Firstly, to better assess documentation practices impacting patient care, members of the NICU auditing team identified seven key points in medical records. These points were then used for the audit of 30 randomly selected "progress notes" for infants admitted to the NICU between January and June 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • Variants associated with neurodevelopmental impairments in children are complex and challenging to evaluate due to their diverse nature and unclear causes.
  • The study highlights a case of a child with neonatal-onset epilepsy and a specific genetic variant (G256W) that impacts ion channel function and leads to reduced cell stability and conduction in nervous tissue.
  • The research also establishes a mouse model that exhibits epilepsy and hyperexcitability in brain cells, linking the genetic variant to observable neurological behaviors and suggesting potential wider implications for understanding similar conditions in other patients.

N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is a serotonergic psychedelic that is known for its short-lasting effects when administered intravenously. Several studies have investigated the administration of intravenous boluses or combinations of a bolus and a subsequent continuous infusion. However, data on dose-dependent acute effects and pharmacokinetics of continuous DMT infusions are lacking.

This study explores the optical design of a daytime radiative cooler with near-ideal solar reflectance and longwave infrared (LWIR) emittance through materials selection and nanostructuring. Focusing on polymers as a materials platform, we introduce a bilayer architecture, comprising a porous poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropene) (P(VdF-HFP)) topcoat that serves as a low-index LWIR emissive effective medium, over a nanofibrous, solar scattering polytetrafluoroethene underlayer. This novel configuration yields a superwhite coating with a near-ideal solar reflectance of >0.

Objective: To characterize clinical, hemodynamic, imaging, and pathologic findings in children with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and variants in SRY-box transcription factor 17 (SOX17), a novel risk gene linked to heritable and congenital heart disease-associated PAH.

Study Design: We assembled a multi-institutional cohort of children with PAH and SOX17 variants enrolled in the Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Network (PPHNet) and other registries. Subjects were identified through exome and PAH gene panel sequencing.
