Pernicious Pouch of Problems: A Challenging Case of Massive Hemorrhage Secondary to Jejunal Diverticular Bleeding.

Small bowel (SB) diverticulosis is an uncommon diagnosis and a rare cause of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding. A particularly rare form of SB diverticular disease, jejunal diverticulosis, is usually discovered due to complications, such as hemorrhage, obstruction, or perforation. Owing in part to its rarity, jejunal diverticular bleeding can be difficult to identify and treat, resulting in increased morbidity and mortality.

Scoping review of drug dosing recommendations in sustained low-efficiency dialysis.

The objective of this scoping review was to answer the question, "What has been published describing drug dosing in sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED)?" PubMed, Embase, and Scopus were searched on November 18, 2022. Methodology followed the Arksey and O'Malley framework for scoping reviews and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines. Two investigators independently screened abstracts and full-texts of citations identified related to drug dosing and SLED.

MRI findings in six dogs with ependymoma of the brain and spinal cord.

There are few published descriptions of the MRI appearance of canine intracranial or spinal cord ependymoma. In this multicenter, retrospective, secondary analysis, case series study, three veterinary radiologists independently reviewed and recorded imaging characteristics of MRI studies in six dogs with histopathologically confirmed ependymoma (three intracranial and three spinal cord cases). A consensus was reached when there was disagreement on specific features.

Immune stress and diet influence reproductive fitness in male tuatara ().

The theoretical trade-off between immune and endocrine investment in mating animals has received mixed empirical support, particularly in reptiles. We investigated the relationship between male sexual characteristics, diet, and immune response to stress in an island population of tuatara () across two mating seasons. Tuatara are promiscuous, with a highly skewed mating system where males face significant competition for access to mates and postcopulatory competition for fertilization success.

Isolation and characterization of microbiota from human pancreatic tumors and small intestine.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma has a unique tumor microbiome and the systemic depletion of bacteria or fungi using antibiotic/antifungal cocktails leads to a decrease in pancreatic tumor burden in mice. However, functional studies remain rare due to the limited availability of clinically relevant microbiota. Here, we describe in detail the isolation of bacteria and fungi from the small intestine and tumor of pancreatic cancer patients at the Rogel Cancer Center.
