Background: Loss of key-pinch sensation after median nerve injury poses significant functional detriment. Nerve transfers are utilized to improve function after nerve injury and size matching of donor and recipient nerves is important to optimize success. This anthropometric study investigates the anatomy of the superficial branch of the radial nerve (SBRN) to the thumb and index finger and explores radial to median sensory nerve transfers, a necessary but not heavily discussed facet of nerve transfers for the hand.

  • Point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) is increasingly used in internal medicine, but proficiency often declines after initial training without ongoing practice.
  • This study tested a structured tutoring program for internal medicine residents to see if it improved their ability to perform and retain POCUS skills over six months following a practical course.
  • The results showed that residents with tutoring significantly increased their POCUS exams and proficiency, especially in heart imaging, compared to those without tutoring.

Total wrist fusion (TWF) and total wrist arthroplasty (TWA) are viable treatment options for the rheumatic wrist. TWF fuses through the carpus to stabilize the wrist in 10° to 15° of extension and neutral coronal alignment. Although TWF can be performed with many implants, dorsal fusion plates are best supported.

Purpose: Distal radius fractures (DRF) that occur from a fall from level ground are considered fragility fractures and may be the first indication that someone has compromised bone mineral density and is at risk of having osteoporosis. Women at about 50 years of age experience a dramatic increase risk of these fractures. Rehabilitation after DRF focuses on restoring range of motion and strength in the wrist, but rarely address future bone health concerns.

Aims & Objectives: To establish whether a suprapectineal pelvic reconstruction plate and posterior column screw (P&S) construct or a single 6.5-mm cannulated posterior column screw (PCS) construct demonstrates greater mechanical stability for fixation of acetabulum fractures involving the posterior column (PC). We hypothesized that the PCS construct would result in less fracture site motion.
