Article Synopsis
  • Lyme disease, caused by spirochete bacteria transmitted by ticks, is the most common and rapidly spreading tick-borne illness in Europe and North America.
  • Researchers sequenced the genomes of 47 Lyme disease isolates, revealing a diverse range of species and consistent plasmid features that are crucial for the bacteria's adaptation.
  • The study highlights the genetic complexities involved, such as recombination and rapid evolution, especially in genes that interact with hosts, contributing to the bacteria's virulence while maintaining a mostly clonal population structure.

Objective: Aim: To determine the conditions for the implementation of trauma-informed training as a means of stabilizing the negative impact of stressful and destructive factors of war on the inner world of future specialists.

Patients And Methods: Materials and Methods: 1,100 students studying in the conditions of martial law took part in the experimental work.

Results: Results: As a result of the negative impact of the stressful and destructive factors of the war on the inner world, the future specialists the following manifestations of the deterioration of the health were established: depression (99%), sudden change of mood (92%), worsening of well-being during sudden changes in the weather (66%), irritability (52%), aggressiveness (11%), anger (7%).

The pathogenicity of many bacteria, including and , depends on pore-forming toxins (PFTs), which cause the lysis of host cells by forming pores in the membranes of eukaryotic cells. Bioinformatic analysis revealed a region homologous to the Lys171-Gly250 sequence in hemolysin II (HlyII) from in over 600 PFTs, which we designated as a "homologous peptide". Three β-barrel PFTs were used for a detailed comparative analysis.

While the influence of landscape and microclimatic conditions on tick populations is well-documented, there remains a gap in more specific data regarding their relationship to rewilding efforts with large herbivore activity. This pilot study, spanning from 2019 to 2021, explores the effects of naturalistic grazing by large semi-wild ungulates on tick abundance in the Milovice Reserve, Czechia. Tick collection was observed using flagging techniques at two distinct sites of rewilding area: one grazed, actively utilized by animals involved in the rewilding project, and one ungrazed, left fallow in neighboring areas utilized only by wild animals.

Lyme disease (LD) spirochetes are well known to be able to disseminate into the tissues of infected hosts, including humans. The diverse strategies used by spirochetes to avoid the host immune system and persist in the host include active immune suppression, induction of immune tolerance, phase and antigenic variation, intracellular seclusion, changing of morphological and physiological state in varying environments, formation of biofilms and persistent forms, and, importantly, incursion into immune-privileged sites such as the brain. Invasion of immune-privileged sites allows the spirochetes to not only escape from the host immune system but can also reduce the efficacy of antibiotic therapy.
