The rapid growth of unconventional natural gas development (UNGD), also known as hydraulic fracturing, has raised concerns of potential exposures to hazardous chemicals. Few studies have examined the risk of childhood cancer from exposure to UNGD. A case-control study included 498 children diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, central nervous system neoplasms, and malignant bone tumors during the period 2010-2019 identified through the Pennsylvania Cancer Registry.

We aimed to evaluate the effects of prepartum supplementation of different I sources (Ascophyllum nodosum [ASCO] meal and ethylenediamine dihydroiodide [EDDI]) on colostrum yield of cows, and blood concentrations of glucose, BHB, and thyroid hormones and growth of dairy calves. Forty multiparous Holstein cows were blocked by lactation number and expected calving date and assigned to 1 of 4 treatments 28 d before parturition: (1) EDDI supplemented (11 mg/d) to a basal diet to meet the NRC (2001) I concentration of 0.5 mg of I/kg of DMI (control = CON [0 g/d of ASCO meal]; actual I concentration = 0.

Cardiac disease in young children can be unrecognized until symptoms are unmasked by a precipitating event, such as an infection. We present a case of anomalous left coronary artery from the pulmonary artery causing clinically significant disease in a four-month-old male with concomitant mitral regurgitation and pulmonary coccidioidomycosis who required modification of his surgical management due to the infection. This case highlights how timely diagnosis and perioperative management and recovery can be affected by concurrent infections in patients with congenital heart disease.

Development of cortical visual prostheses requires optimization of evoked responses to electrical stimulation to reduce charge requirements and improve safety, efficiency, and efficacy. One promising approach is timing stimulation to the local field potential (LFP), where action potentials have been found to occur preferentially at specific phases. To assess the relationship between electrical stimulation and the phase of the LFP, we recorded action potentials from primary (V1) and secondary (V2) visual cortex in marmosets while delivering single-pulse electrical microstimulation at different phases of the LFP.
