[Holter monitoring for short-term prognostication in patients with myocardium infarction].

Individualized prognosis is a topical problem in the management of acute myocardial infarction. Prediction of clinical course and outcome of the disease encounters many difficulties since it requires highly sensitive and specific measurements that must be safe and technically simple. Prognostic studies related to acute myocardial infarction are many, but combined effect of various factors remains poorly known.

[Solar activity and cardiovascular diseases].

Many-year research into biological effects caused by solar activity has proved that the response of biological objects, including human organism, to heliogeomagnetic disturbances presents an adaptive stress reaction. This response can be irreversible only in organisms whose adaptive system works improperly due to a pathological condition or overstress. Studies dedicated to the role of melatonin--an epiphysial hormone--in human and animal stress protection, are of interest.

[The first experience in application of melatonin (melaxen) for prophylaxis of the effects of magnetic storms on patients with cardiovascular pathology].

The aim of the investigation was to study a possibility to prevent the effects of geomagnetic storms (GMS) on cardiovascular patients. The subjects were patients with stage II to III essential hypertension and functional class II to III coronary artery disease, who were divided into three groups. Patients in group I received basic pharmacotherapy; patients in group II were treated with basic medications plus vitamin E; patients in group III received basic medications plus melatonin (melaxen).
