This work helps address recent calls for systematic water quality assessment in Central Asia and considers how nutrient and salinity sources, and transport, affect water quality along the continuum from the cryosphere to the lowland plains. Spatial and, for the first time, temporal variations in stream water pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, and nitrate and phosphate concentrations are presented for four catchments (485-13,500 km), all with glaciers and major urban areas. The catchments studied were: Kaskelen (Kazakhstan), Ala-Archa (Kyrgyzstan), Chirchik (Uzbekistan) and the Kofarnihon (Tajikistan).

Developmental cardiac tissue is regenerative while operating under low oxygen. After birth, ambient oxygen is associated with cardiomyocyte cell cycle exit and regeneration. Likewise, cardiac metabolism undergoes a shift with cardiac maturation.

Rationale: Cell-based therapeutics have been extensively used for cardiac repair yet underperform due to inability of the donated cells to survive in near anoxia after cardiac injury. Cellular metabolism is linked to maintenance of cardiac stem cell (CSC) renewal, proliferation and survival. Ex vivo expansion alters (CSC) metabolism increasing reliance on oxygen dependent respiration.

Cellular replacement in the heart is restricted to postnatal stages with the adult heart largely postmitotic. Studies show that loss of regenerative properties in cardiac cells seems to coincide with alterations in metabolism during postnatal development and maturation. Nevertheless, whether changes in cellular metabolism are linked to functional alternations in cardiac cells is not well studied.

High-intensity impulse laser radiation proved effective in 23 patients with esophageal candidiasis. The highest effect was achieved in its use with nistatin. In low laser efficacy radiation should be combined with transendoscopic administration of granulocytes concentrate.
