Clopidogrel-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura: a case report.

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare variant of thrombotic microangiopathy. We report a case of TTP in a Nigerian chronic kidney disease (CKD) patient who was previously on clopidogrel. The features of TTP resolved soon after clopidogrel was withdrawn.

Exclusive Breastfeeding Knowledge, Intention to Practice and Predictors among Primiparous Women in Enugu South-East, Nigeria.

Breastfeeding is considered as the most complete nutritional source for infants because breast milk contains the essential carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and immunological factors needed for infants to thrive and resist infection in the formative first year of life. Knowledge of exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) among women is essential when promoting optimal breastfeeding practices. This cross-sectional descriptive survey assessed knowledge and intention to practice EBF and its associated factors during pregnancy among primiparous women in selected communities in Enugu State, Nigeria.

Armillifer armillatus infection.

We report a case of human pentastomiasis in a 70-year-old retired long-distance driver/farmer whose diagnosis was made incidentally while being investigated for a 1-month history of cough and abdominal pain. The chest X-ray revealed multiple comma-shaped and rounded opacities in keeping with Armillifer infection, most likely Armillifer armillatus. The patient made an uneventful recovery after a 10-day course of mebendazole (an antihelminthic) tablet and ciprofloxacin (antibiotic) capsules and was discharged home.

Dyslipidemias in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in Nnewi South-East Nigeria.

Background: Dyslipidemia has been noted to play an integral role in the pathogenesis and progression of micro and macrovascular complications in diabetes mellitus patients. The complications exemplified by renal vascular and cardiovascular disease cause the most morbidity and mortality in this group of patients.

Objective: This study is aimed at understanding the pattern of dyslipidemia among type 2 diabetic patients.

Prevalence of dyslipidemia among adult diabetic patients with overt diabetic nephropathy in Anambra state south-east Nigeria.

Background: Dyslipidemia has been identified as a risk factor for the development and progression of diabetic renal disease.

Objective: This study was done to determine the prevalence of dyslipidemia among diabetic patients with overt nephropathy.

Materials And Methods: A total of 72 diabetic patients with overt diabetic nephropathy and 36 age- and sex-matched normoalbuminuric diabetic patients were studied.
