The reaction of the Schiff base 2-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl-idene-amino]-ethanol (H), which is formed by reaction of 2-amino-ethanol and 2-acetyl-pyridine with CuBr in ethanol results in the isolation of the new polymeric complex poly[hexa-μ-bromido-bis-{2-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl-idene-amino]-ethano-lato}tetra-copper(II)], [CuBr(CHNO)] or [CuBr ]. The asymmetric unit of the crystal structure of the polymeric [CuBr ] complex is composed by four copper (II) cations, two monodeprotonated mol-ecules of the ligand, and six bromide anions, which act as bridges. The ligand mol-ecules act in a tridentate fashion through their azomethine nitro-gen atoms, their pyridine nitro-gen atoms, and their alcoholate O atoms.

We report the synthesis and structures of two transition-metal complexes involving 2-(2-hy-droxy-phen-yl)benzimidazole (2hpbi - a ligand of inter-est for its photoluminescent applications), with cobalt, namely, bis-[μ-2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato]bis-[ethanol(thio-cyanato)-cobalt(II)], [Co(CHNO)(NCS)(CHO)], (), and manganese, namely, bis-[μ-2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato]bis-{[2-(1-1,3-benzo-diazol-2-yl)phenolato](thio-cyanato)-mang-an-ese(III)} dihydrate, [Mn(CHNO)(NCS)]·2HO, (). These structures are two recent examples of a fruitful collaboration between researchers at the Laboratoire de Chimie de Coordination Organique/Organic Coordination Chemistry Laboratory (LCCO), University of Dakar, Senegal and the National Crystallography Service (NCS), School of Chemistry, University Southampton, UK. This productive partnership was forged through meeting at Pan-African Conferences on Crystallography and quickly grew as the plans for the AfCA (African Crystallographic Association) developed.

Chikungunya (CHIKV) is a re-emerging endemic arbovirus in West Africa. Since July 2023, Senegal and Burkina Faso have been experiencing an ongoing outbreak, with over 300 confirmed cases detected so far in the regions of Kédougou and Tambacounda in Senegal, the largest recorded outbreak yet. CHIKV is typically maintained in a sylvatic cycle in Senegal but its evolution and factors contributing to re-emergence are so far unknown in West Africa, leaving a gap in understanding and responding to recurrent epidemics.

Schistosomiasis is a major neglected tropical disease (NTD) affecting both humans and animals. The morbidity and mortality inflicted upon livestock in the Afrotropical region has been largely overlooked, in part due to a lack of validated sensitive and specific tests, which do not require specialist training or equipment to deliver and interpret. As stressed within the recent WHO NTD 2021-2030 Roadmap and Revised Guideline for schistosomiasis, inexpensive, non-invasive, and sensitive diagnostic tests for livestock-use would also facilitate both prevalence mapping and appropriate intervention programmes.

Background: Shared decision-making (SDM) leads to better health care processes through collaboration between health care professionals and patients. Training is recognized as a promising intervention to foster SDM by health care professionals. However, the most effective training type is still unclear.
