This study describes the synthesis and characterization of a magnetic cellulose gold nanocomposite (MCNC@Au) for magnetic solid phase (m-SPE) extraction of total sulfur content in liquid fuel samples followed by analysis using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). The nanocomposite was prepared using an co-precipitation method and characterization results from FTIR, P-XRD, TEM and SEM-EDX techniques confirmed the formation of the targeted nanocomposite. To achieve good extraction efficiency, the 2-level half-fractional factorial design and central composite design were used to investigate the most influential parameters of the proposed m-SPE method.

There is a lack of information regarding the presence of heavy metals in feed ingredients for animals. Therefore, this study examines 10 feed samples collected from commercial pet food in South African market. The optimal working parameters for ultrasound assisted hydrogen peroxide extraction (UA-HPE) confirmed by multivariate optimization were sonication temperature at 80 °C for 60 min, sample mass of 0.

This study describes a novel and greener ionic liquid assisted extraction induced by emulsion breaking (ILA-EIEB) method for extraction of As, Ba, Cd, Cr, Ni Pb, Sb, Sn, Tb, Te and V in fuel oils. The most influential extraction parameters were ionic liquid concentration [(1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl)], HNO concentration, Triton X-100 concentration, and sample mass and were optimised by using full factorial and Box-Behnken designs. The optimum conditions obtained were 0.

This work describes a greener and cost-effective microwave-assisted hydrogen peroxide digestion (MA-HPD) with the addition of 1 mL of HNO (70% v/v) to enhance extraction of selected metals (Al, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mg, Na, Ni, Pb, Sb, Ti and V) in crude-oil, diesel, gasoline and kerosene samples prior to inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopic (ICP-OES) analysis. The most influential parameters of the MA-HPD method were investigated by using multivariate optimization tools (two-level full factorial and central composite designs) and fuel oil certified reference material (NIST1634c). The optimum conditions were observed to be 245 ℃ microwave temperature, 25 min digestion time, 0.

Mycotoxins are toxic compounds that are formed as secondary metabolites by some fungal species that contaminate crops during pre- and postharvest stages. Exposure to mycotoxins can lead to adverse health effects in humans, such as carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and teratogenicity. Hence, there is a need to develop analytical methods for their determination in vegetable oils that possess high sensitivity and selectivity.
