Defects in Aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator-like 1 (ARNTL), a central component of the circadian clock mechanism, may promote or inhibit the induction of inflammation by monocytes/macrophages, with varying effects on different diseases. However, ARNTL's role in monocytes/macrophages under chronic kidney disease (CKD), which presents with systemic inflammation, is unclear. Here, we report that the expression of in monocytes promoted CKD-induced cardiac damage.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study aimed to analyze the long-term effects of cortisol and aldosterone in the hair of six female Holstein calves using ELISA, across 18 calves over three seasons.
  • - Results showed that cortisol levels were higher in the back region (white hair) compared to other regions and colors, and spring values were significantly higher than those in summer.
  • - Additionally, aldosterone levels were found for the first time, with higher concentrations in the back region and white hair, showing seasonal variations with spring being higher than summer and winter.

Article Synopsis
  • The study developed a population pharmacokinetic (popPK) model to understand the complex absorption and variability of mycophenolic acid (MPA) in patients who have undergone renal transplantation.
  • Nonlinear mixed-effects modeling was used to analyze data from 42 patients, resulting in a two-compartment model that factors in various influences like total body weight, renal function, and the days since transplantation.
  • The simulation suggests that a dose of 500-1000 mg of MPA twice daily is recommended initially post-transplant, but adjustments may be needed as patients progress in their recovery or if renal function changes.

Background/aim: Few studies have examined the association between programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression in small cell lung cancer and the effect of chemoimmunotherapy.

Patients And Methods: Patients diagnosed with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer at our hospital between September 2019 and August 2023, who were treated with atezolizumab plus carboplatin and etoposide and had pathological tissue immunostained with SP142, were retrospectively examined to determine whether treatment efficacy differed depending on the expression of PD-L1.

Results: Twenty-nine patients were analyzed.

An 84-year-old man presented with a large bronchial artery aneurysm with a tortuous afferent artery. A triple-coaxial system was used to perform super-selective catheterization, consisting of a small microcatheter, a large microcatheter, and a 4-Fr catheter. The large microcatheter was successfully placed inside the aneurysm, and coil embolization was performed using large detachable coils to reduce the procedure cost.
