L-type calcium channel antagonists are uncommon causes of myoclonus, and the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Here, we report a case of parkinsonian syndrome with deterioration of preexisting myoclonus after nifedipine use. A 96-year-old woman was administered a single dose of sustained-release nifedipine for chest pain.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study addresses challenges in accurately segmenting the hippocampus for analyzing neurodegenerative diseases using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM).
  • - A new convolutional neural network model, called 3D residual UNET, was developed and trained on brain image data from Alzheimer's and mild cognitive impairment patients to extract magnetic susceptibility values from the hippocampus.
  • - Results showed that the model achieved a high accuracy in segmentation and a strong correlation between magnetic susceptibility values and hippocampal volume, indicating its potential for improving hippocampal analysis in clinical settings.

Introduction: To apply susceptibility separation on quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) images of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients to obtain more accurate images and gain pathophysiological insights.

Methods: This retrospective study included subjects who underwent head MRI, including QSM between March 2016 and March 2018. Patients with PD were categorized as having mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI), or normal cognition (PD-CN); healthy controls (HC) were also enrolled.

Objectives: We aimed to identify independent factors for intraoperative endoscopic lens cloudiness during gastric and colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissections, investigate the effectiveness of Cleastay, an endoscope anti-fog solution, and examine factors associated with severe submucosal fat deposition.

Methods: A total of 220 patients who underwent gastric or colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissections in two institutions between January 2022 and October 2023 were included. Significant factors related to cloudiness were determined using univariate and multivariate analyses.
