During 2021 through 2023, the golden mussel and freshwater fishes were sampled from 28 sites in the Tone River system, Japan, and adult trematodes of were found in the fishes. Molecular and morphological analyses based on 28S rDNA and the ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 region revealed the trematode as '', previously reported in Mainland China and likely introduced to Japan.

Background: As multiple Japanese academic societies have recently issued treatment guidelines for perinatal antidepressant treatments, it is considered worthwhile to evaluate the latest trends and continuation of antidepressant medication during pregnancy to optimize antenatal prescriptions.

Methods: The prevalence, trend, and continuation of antidepressant use during pregnancy in Japan from 2012 to 2023 were evaluated, using a large administrative claims database, in women whose pregnancies ended in live births. Annual changes were evaluated using a multivariate logistic regression model adjusted for maternal age at delivery.

The involvement of drug-metabolizing enzymes and transporters in plasma clozapine (CLZ) dynamics has not been well examined in Japanese patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS). Therefore, this clinical study investigated the relationship between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of various pharmacokinetic factors (drug-metabolizing enzymes and transporters) and dynamic changes in CLZ. Additionally, we aimed to determine whether CLZ acts as a substrate for pharmacokinetic factors using in vitro assays and molecular docking calculations.

Introduction: Increased fecal protease activity, which may induce visceral hypersensitivity, has been observed in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Serine proteases modulate FK506 binding protein (FKBP)-type peptidylprolyl cis-trans isomerase (PPIase) activity associated with immune and glucocorticoid receptor functions. The aim was to investigate whether camostat mesilate (CM), a serine protease inhibitor, modifies fecal bacterial function related to FKBP-type PPIases in patients with IBS.

Biofuel cells have become an interesting alternative for the design of sustainable energy conversion systems with multiple applications ranging from biosensing and bioelectronics to autonomously moving devices. However, as an electrochemical system, their performance is intimately related to mass transport conditions. In this work, the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) effect is studied as an easy and straightforward alternative to enhance the performance of a biofuel cell based on the enzymes glucose oxidase (GOx) and bilirubin oxidase (BOD).
