Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is a serious condition often leading to acute heart failure (HF), with diverse etiologies including viral myocarditis. This report details a case of reversible DCM in a 34-year-old male who presented with symptoms of acute HF. Diagnostic workup revealed biventricular dilation with severe systolic dysfunction and serology confirming herpes simplex virus infection.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe nucleus accumbens (NAc) is a key brain region for motivated behaviors, yet how distinct neuronal populations encode appetitive or aversive stimuli remains undetermined. Using microendoscopic calcium imaging in mice, we tracked NAc shell D1- or D2-medium spiny neurons' (MSNs) activity during exposure to stimuli of opposing valence and associative learning. Despite drift in individual neurons' coding, both D1- and D2-population activity was sufficient to discriminate opposing valence unconditioned stimuli, but not predictive cues.

Objective: To verify the temporal trend of neonatal mortality in the health regions of Pernambuco between 2000 and 2020.
Method: A time-series ecological study was conducted, analyzing the total neonatal mortality rate and its early and late components. For regression analysis, Joinpoint Regression was applied, trends were classified, and annual and average percentage changes were calculated for the period, with a significance level of 95%.
