Intermaxillary fixation screws versus Erich arch bars in mandibular fractures: A comparative study and review of literature.

Objective: Various techniques have been employed from time to time to achieve maxillomamdibular fixation. Although arch bars provide an effective and versatile means of maxillomandibular fixation, their use is not without shortcomings. However the introduction of intermaxillary fixation screws (IMF) has eliminated many of these issues of arch bars.

Sialocele: an unusual case report and its management.

A post traumatic parotid sialocele is an acquired lesion that arises from extravasation of saliva into glandular or periglandular tissues secondary to disruption of the parotid duct or parenchyma. Facial trauma and surgery in the parotid region are the most common causes of this rare condition. This paper presents an unusual incidence of post traumatic parotid sialocele after Le-Fort II fracture reduction and its management by relatively simple and cost-effective technique which can be carried out in routine dental surgery suite.

Cervical pharyngostomy: an alternative approach to enteral feeding.

Surgical patients may be unable or unwilling to feed normally, owing to mechanical obstruction to ingestion because of nausea or anorexia or secondary to neurologic abnormality. Such patients may be in a malnourished state that compromises their chances of successful recovery.
