Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to compare the effectiveness of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and 3 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in diagnosing subchondral insufficiency fractures in the knee.
  • Out of 30 patients, there were significant discrepancies in grading bone lesions between CBCT and MRI, with CBCT often providing more accurate and lower estimates of lesion size.
  • The reliability of lesion assessment was high for both imaging methods, but CBCT outperformed MRI in terms of accurately measuring bony defects.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at patients with a serious bone infection called periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) to understand how it affects the bone around implants.
  • Researchers took bone samples from 20 patients with PJI and compared them to samples from 40 other patients without the infection.
  • They found that patients with PJI had more bone volume and activity, which could mean their bodies were trying to fix the infection but that this process could lead to more problems if not treated quickly.

Background: Previous studies have speculated on elevated synovial inflammatory markers in patients undergoing surgical revision for total hip arthroplasty (THA) dislocation. However, this assumption is based on small patient series and a full investigation according to International Consensus Meeting (ICM) criteria has not yet been performed.

Methods: Patients who had aseptic THA dislocation indicated for revision surgery were identified retrospectively.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of the absolute synovial polymorphonuclear neutrophil cell (PMN) count for the diagnosis or exclusion of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after total hip (THA) or knee arthroplasty (TKA). In this retrospective cohort study, 147 consecutive patients with acute or chronic complaints following THA and TKA were included. Diagnosis of PJI was established based on the 2018 International Consensus Meeting criteria.
