Article Synopsis
  • - A study involving 24 medical specialists developed a clinical decision framework for managing liver cyst infections, which often require long-term hospitalization and can have serious consequences.
  • - The modified Delphi method involved three rounds of surveys and discussions to gather expert opinions on management strategies and define treatment outcomes, resulting in consensus on various aspects of the condition.
  • - The experts identified important indicators like fever and elevated C-reactive protein for treatment decisions, along with subclassifications of liver cyst infections, leading to 26 agreed-upon management statements and two treatment algorithms.

Background: Macrolide-resistant Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease is very difficult to cure. Macrolide-resistance emerges in patients and is largely preventable by appropriate screening and treatment practices.

Methods: Patients with macrolide-resistant MAC isolates between March 2019 and March 2022 were retrieved from the mycobacteriology reference laboratory database at Radboudumc, Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Single-Molecule Localization Microscopy (SMLM) provides the ability to determine molecular organizations in cells at nanoscale resolution, but in complex biological tissues, where sample-induced aberrations hamper detection and localization, its application remains a challenge. Various adaptive optics approaches have been proposed to overcome these issues, but the exact performance of these methods has not been consistently established. Here we systematically compare the performance of existing methods using both simulations and experiments with standardized samples and find that they often provide limited correction or even introduce additional errors.

Fungal keratitis is difficult to treat, especially keratitis. In vitro studies show that chlorhexidine could be an interesting option as monotherapy. We describe a case series of four patients (four eyes) with keratitis at Radboud University Medical Center (Nijmegen, the Netherlands).

Background: Since the ISO standard 20776-1 and serial dilution procedures were compared in 2010 for fluconazole and itraconazole, several new antifungals that are hydrophobic and highly potent have been introduced.

Objectives: To investigate the impact of the number of tip changes during serial dilution, and ISO and serial dilution for nine antifungals.

Methods: EUCAST E.
