Recently, manuscripts that use bioinformatics tools to convert proteins and other biological materials into music have appeared in several journals. The authors claim that this type of studies adds joy to education of life sciences and attract public attention to biochemistry education along with other uses. We thought the reverse of the process might also be possible for the purpose.

Our previously synthesized 37 compounds, which are 2,5,6-substituted benzoxazole, benzimidazole, benzothiazole, and oxazolo(4,5-b)pyridine derivatives, were tested for their eukaryotic DNA topoisomerase II inhibitory activity in cell free system and 28 were found to inhibit the topoisomerase II at an initial concentration of 100 microg/ml. After further testing at a lower range of concentrations, 12 derivatives, which were considered as positive topoisomerase inhibitors, exhibited IC50 values between 11.4 and 46.

This study is aimed at investigating the inhibitory effect of cadmium ion on glutathione reductase activity of rabbit brain and liver and the relationship of this effect with dietary selenium. For this purpose, one group of New Zealand rabbits were fed a selenium-deficient diet, another group was fed a selenium-rich diet, and the control group was fed a normal diet. The brain and liver tissues of these groups were investigated for the in vitro inhibitory effects of Cd2+ on glutathione reductase activity.
