Background: Many patients experience a reduced quality of life for months after heart surgery. Besides medical factors, psychological factors such as preoperative expectations influence the recovery process. The ValvEx study investigated whether an expectation-focused preoperative intervention before heart valve surgery would i) increase positive realistic expectations, ii) reduce preoperative anxiety and iii) improve the postoperative recovery process.

Despite multimodality treatment approaches, there has not been any appreciable change in survival benefit in the past 10 years. The future of targeted therapy for WD/DDLPS is promising with the intention to spare multi-visceral removal due to radical surgical resection.

Cement fixation of the humeral stem is considered the gold standard for this procedure. Due to the high prevalence of osteoporosis in this patient population, the risk of intraoperative fractures is increased when uncemented stems are used.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWith advanced mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics, genome-scale proteome coverage can be achieved from bulk cells. However, such bulk measurement obscures cell-to-cell heterogeneity, precluding proteome profiling of single cells and small numbers of cells of interest. To address this issue, in the recent 5 years, there has been a surge of small sample preparation methods developed for robust and effective collection and processing of single cells and small numbers of cells for in-depth MS-based proteome profiling.
