DRESS Mimicking Flushing Syndrome Associated with Vancomycin: A Case Report.

Background: The Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) is a serious adverse reaction that occurs weeks after the onset of drug exposure. DRESS syndrome is commonly associated with antiseizure drugs, sulfa drugs, and antibiotics.

Case Presentation: This was a case report of a 20-year-old female who suffered from DRESS due to vancomycin with symptoms similar to the Redman syndrome.

Nuak1 (NUAK family SnF1-like kinase-1) is a serine-threonine kinase and a member of the AMPK family. Interest in Nuak1 has increased over the years due to the role it plays in several biological processes, from tumor cell invasion and proliferation to Tau stabilization. Nuak1 is expressed in many cancer cell lines and many reports describe this target as an oncogene, the inhibition of which is hypothesized to be valuable for treating various cancer types including glioma.

Antimicrobials are frequently used in critically ill children admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The antimicrobial use data from Indian PICUs is limited using standard metrics such as Days of therapy (DOT). This study aimed to determine the baseline trend of antimicrobial use in PICU of a tertiary care teaching hospital of Raipur district of Chhattisgarh, India using standard metrics with the goal of developing facility-wide antibiotic policy and strengthening the antimicrobial stewardship activities.
