Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) can cause immune-related adverse events (irAEs) in various organs. Herein, we present a rare case involving a patient with immunotherapy-related gastritis who developed refractory vomiting and anorexia after treatment with nivolumab for cutaneous malignant melanoma. The patient was treated with oral corticosteroids, but the efficacy was limited.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the phenomenon of basopenia (decreased basophils in blood) occurring during urticaria (allergic skin reaction), aiming to replicate this in an IgE-mediated mouse model.* -
  • Using TNP-specific IgE and stimulation with TNP-ovalbumin, researchers observed immediate ear swelling and reduced basophils in the blood and skin lesions, while more basophils were found in the lymph nodes.* -
  • Findings suggest that during urticaria, basophils migrate to lymph nodes as part of the immune response, indicating the need to consider systemic immune interactions while studying urticaria pathogenesis in humans.*

Article Synopsis
  • Acute cholecystitis is an inflammation of the gallbladder primarily caused by gallstones, while acalculous cholecystitis occurs without gallstones and can result from various factors like poor blood flow or infections.
  • In the presented case, acute cholecystitis was linked to an unusual cause: a duodenal ulcer that had penetrated the gallbladder.
  • Diagnosis involved physical exams, blood tests, and imaging, leading to laparoscopic surgery to treat the condition, highlighting that duodenal ulcers should be considered in cases of acalculous cholecystitis, despite their rarity.

In robot-assisted surgery, in which haptics should be absent, surgeons experience haptics-like sensations as "pseudo-haptic feedback". As surgeons who routinely perform robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery, we wondered if we could make these "pseudo-haptics" explicit to surgeons. Therefore, we created a simulation model that estimates manipulation forces using only visual images in surgery.

Purpose: To verify the validity of an endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR)-first strategy for treating patients with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA) in Japan.

Materials And Methods: This study was conducted on 2 groups of patients with rAAA who underwent surgical treatment at 3 hospitals in the Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, between January 2007 and September 2016. The open surgical treatment group comprised patients with rAAA who underwent open surgical treatment before January 2012; their data were retrospectively collected from their medical records.
