Article Synopsis
  • The transabdominal preperitoneal repair (TAPP) is a common minimally invasive surgery for inguinal hernias, primarily noted for reducing postoperative pain.
  • A study was conducted on 99 patients to compare the effectiveness of three newer pain management techniques: port site local anesthetic injection, iliohypogastric-/ilioinguinal nerve block, and preperitoneal local anesthetic spraying.
  • Results showed that while all methods had positive outcomes, the preperitoneal local anesthetic spraying technique was slightly better at managing pain in the first 24 hours after surgery, but more extensive studies are needed for clearer conclusions.
