Article Synopsis
  • - The Ewing Sarcoma Family of Tumors (ESFT) includes rare cancers, with a significant portion showing metastatic spread, especially affecting bone and bone marrow, which worsens prognosis and necessitates stronger treatments.
  • - The French phase II COMBINAIR3 study compared the effectiveness of PET/CT to traditional bone marrow aspiration and biopsy (BMAB) for staging extra-pulmonary metastatic ESFT in 42 patients.
  • - Results indicated that PET/CT had high specificity (100%) and notable sensitivity (83.3%) in detecting bone marrow involvement, suggesting it can replace BMAB for initial staging, thereby enhancing treatment planning for high-risk ESFT patients.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated how certain biomarkers from pretreatment PET/CT scans relate to patient outcomes in those with metastatic breast cancer (mBC) receiving specific antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) - Sacituzumab Govitecan (SG) and Trastuzumab Deruxtecan (T-DXd).
  • Conducted on 128 patients, the research found that higher levels of total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV) and maximum tumor dissemination (Dmax) were linked to shorter overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in both treatment groups.
  • The conclusion highlights the potential of these biomarkers for improving survival predictions and tailoring treatment plans for mTNBC and

Purpose: The study of cell-free DNA (cfDNA) enables sequential analysis of tumor cell-specific genetic alterations in patients with neuroblastoma.

Experimental Design: Eighteen patients with relapsing neuroblastoma having received lorlatinib, a third-generation ALK inhibitor, were identified (SACHA national registry and/or in the institution). cfDNA was analyzed at relapse for nine patients and sequentially for five patients (blood/bone marrow plasma) by performing whole-genome sequencing library construction followed by ALK-targeted ddPCR of the hotspot mutations [F1174L, R1275Q, and I1170N; variant allele fraction (VAF) detection limit 0.

Limited evidence exists regarding the 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18]-fluoro-D-glucose (FDG) avidity of Warthin tumors, the second most common benign parotid gland tumor. This study aims to clarify this aspect by analyzing patients who underwent FDG positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and quantifying tumor standardized uptake values (SUV). Medical records of 29 patients with fine needle aspiration (FNA)-confirmed Warthin tumors who underwent FDG-PET/CT near the diagnosis of Warthin tumor were reviewed.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are studying different types of imaging to see how well they can find and assess neuroblastoma in kids, especially comparing a method called mIBG with new PET scans.!
  • They looked at 10 studies involving 181 patients and found that the PET scans could detect more tumors than the mIBG method in many cases.!
  • Although PET scans seem to work better, doctors are still figuring out if this will really change how they treat patients in the future.!
