Ward-based in situ simulation: lessons learnt from a UK District General Hospital.

Introduction: In situ simulation (ISS) enables multiprofessional healthcare teams to train for real emergencies in their own working environment and identify latent patient safety threats. This study aimed to determine ISS impact on teamwork, technical skill performance, healthcare staff perception and latent error identification during simulated medical emergencies.

Materials And Methods: Unannounced ISS sessions (n=14, n=75 staff members) using a high-fidelity mannequin were conducted in medical, paediatric and rehabilitation wards at Stepping Hill Hospital (Stockport National Health Service Foundation Trust, UK).

Conventional and Novel Approaches to Immunosuppression in Lung Transplantation.

Most therapeutic advances in immunosuppression have occurred over the past few decades. Although modern strategies have been effective in reducing acute cellular rejection, excess immunosuppression comes at the price of toxicity, opportunistic infection, and malignancy. As our understanding of the immune system and allograft rejection becomes more nuanced, there is an opportunity to evolve immunosuppression protocols to optimize longer term outcomes while mitigating the deleterious effects of traditional protocols.

Modulation, microbiota and inflammation in the adult CF gut: A prospective study.

Background: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) has prominent gastrointestinal and pancreatic manifestations. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) modulation on, gastrointestinal inflammation, pancreatic function and gut microbiota composition in people with cystic fibrosis (CF) and the G551D-CFTR mutation.

Methods: Fourteen adult patients with the G551D-CFTR mutation were assessed clinically at baseline and for up to 1 year after treatment with ivacaftor.

The importance of lung cancer as a complication of lung transplantation is increasingly recognised. It may become an important survival-limiting factor in lung transplant patients as management of other complications continues to improve and utilisation of extended criteria donors grows. Radiology can play a key role in tackling this issue at multiple stages in the transplantation pathway and follow-up process.

Relapsing meningitis in a patient with COVID-19.

is a common cause of potentially life-threatening infection. This report describes a relapsing healthcare-associated meningitis in a 60-year-old patient who had SARS-CoV-2 infection. During their initial admission for COVID-19 pneumonitis and treatment with corticosteroids, the patient developed signs and symptoms suggestive of bacterial meningitis.
