Oedema is a common finding in obesity and its cause is not always clear. Possible causes include impairment of cardiac, respiratory and/or renal function, chronic venous insufficiency and lymphatic problems. Lymphoscintigraphy is the best method to detect structural lymphatic abnormalities that can cause lymphoedema.

The aim of this study was to compare the usefulness of (99)Tc(m)-methoxy-isobutyl-isonitrile (MIBI) scintimammography and ultrasonography, alone and in combination, for the detection of chest wall recurrence in the post-mastectomy breast. A total of 41 consecutive post-mastectomy patients (mean age 46.6 years; median age 45 years) with clinical suspicion of breast cancer recurrence were evaluated.

Background: Severe constipation may be subclassified on the basis of speed of colonic transit and efficacy of rectal evacuation. It is hypothesized that rectal evacuatory disorder (RED) may be associated with a secondary transit delay.

Objectives: To determine whether scintigraphy can discriminate between slow transit constipation (STC) with or without coexistent RED on the basis of progression of isotope throughout the colon and by analyses of specific regions of interest.

Circulation time (Ct) between lung and periphery may be a surrogate for cardiac output, estimated here, for the most part, as the time between taking a breath of nitrogen and peripheral detection of a desaturation pulse. Use of pulse oximetry involves an internal, instrument delay; however, using the ear, we found shortening with exercise (12.1 +/- 0.

Background: ST segment depression on the electrocardiogram during the exercise treadmill test (ETT) is used as a predictor of coronary artery disease (CAD), although it is recognised that both false-positive and false-negative results limit the value of this procedure. Although adenosine does not produce an inotropic or chronotropic effect upon the myocardium it may cause ST depression during infusion.

Methods: The 12-lead ECG recordings obtained during 825 adenosine stress and 425 ETT procedures, performed as part of a 2-day Tc-MIBI protocol, were retained for examination and comparison with the appearances at subsequent myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI).
