Background: The aim of the study was to investigate the levels of S-nitrosothiols (RSNO) in blood serum of children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), nonspecific ulcerative colitis (NUC) and Crohn's disease (CD), and correlate the obtained data with the number of total nitric oxide metabolites (NOx) and proinflammatory cytokines (PC).

Methods: RSNO and NOx were determined by the Griess method and PC by ELISA. We examined 174 children of both genders aged from 6 to 17 years (mean age - 14 years) including 112 children suffering from IBD and 62 children from the control group.

This paper reports basic features of the (137)Cs uptake by forest-derived products in the Gomel region. Even with the soil contamination density of 37 kBq m(-2) the radionuclide contents in 20-30% of mushrooms and berries were found to be higher than the admissible levels. The (137)Cs contamination density of soil, site type and meteorological parameters were observed as the major factors which govern the radiocaesium uptake by mushrooms and berries.

Previous research on the care-giver burden experienced by adult children has typically focused on the adult child and parent dyad. This study uses information on multiple informal care-givers and examines how characteristics of the informal care-giving network affect the adult child's care-giver burden. In 2007, 602 Dutch care-givers who were assisting their older parents reported on parental and personal characteristics, care activities, experienced burden and characteristics of other informal care-givers.
