Objectives: We aimed to discover CpG sites with differential DNA methylation in peripheral blood leukocytes associated with body mass index (BMI) in pregnancy and gestational weight gain (GWG) in women of European and South Asian ancestry. Furthermore, we aimed to investigate how the identified sites were associated with methylation quantitative trait loci, gene ontology, and cardiometabolic parameters.

Methods: In the Epigenetics in pregnancy (EPIPREG) sample we quantified maternal DNA methylation in peripheral blood leukocytes in gestational week 28 with Illumina's MethylationEPIC BeadChip.

Background: Leptin, mainly secreted by fat cells, plays a core role in the regulation of appetite and body weight, and has been proposed as a mediator of metabolic programming. During pregnancy leptin is also secreted by the placenta, as well as being a key regulatory cytokine for the development, homeostatic regulation and nutrient transport within the placenta. South Asians have a high burden of type 2 diabetes, partly attributed to a "thin-fat-phenotype".

The tetraphenyltetracyanoporphyrazine complex of ytterbium has been studied as a potential photosensitizer for fluorescence diagnostics and photodynamic therapy (PDT) of cancer. It has been shown that the new compound has an intensive absorption and fluorescence in the "tissue optical window". In particular, the absorption maximum of the complex is at the wavelength of 590 nm, and the fluorescence emission maximum is at 640 nm.

The possibility of in vivo investigation of the pharmacokinetics of photosensitizers by means of fluorescence transillumination imaging is demonstrated. An animal is scanned in the transilluminative configuration by a single source and detector pair. Transillumination is chosen as an alternative approach to reflection imaging.
