Clinical and epidemiological characterization is presented of local running-water-borne outbreak of abdominal typhoid (AT) in 1992-1994 in Lugansk. Described in the paper is AT clinical picture in 77 patients, characterized by briefer fever periods and shorter time courses of the symptomatology. Water-borne factor of transmission was found out to have a part in the above outbreak.

As revealed in this study, during the fever period of the disease pronounced disturbances in immune homeostasis are observed, which are manifested by T lymphopenia, the prevalence of suppressor subpopulations of T lymphocytes with the prevalence of T helpers, a considerable rise in the level of circulating immune complexes (CIC), mainly highly pathogenic medium- and low-molecular complexes. At the early period of convalescence the preservation of all these signs is indicative of fact that the treat of TF relapse is present.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFQuercetin and tocopherol were given to 134 patients with Flexner's dysentery intramuscularly for 7 days; 154 patients received routine treatment. It was found that quercetin and tocopherol acetate enhanced normalization of clinical indices and restoration of the immune homeostasis. The above drugs are recommended for the complex treatment of dysentery.
