Multichamber gunshot wounds of the heart. The utility of transesophageal echocardiography.

A patient had a gunshot wound to the heart involving three cardiac chambers. Conventional echocardiography failed to identify the intracardiac injuries. The utility of transesophageal echocardiography in a patient with cardiac trauma is described.

Aneurysm of the left sinus of valsalva: an unusual presentation.

Unruptured aneurysms of the left sinus of Valsalva are extremely rare, and their clinical features are not well-documented in the literature. We describe an unusual case in which an unruptured aneurysm of the left sinus of Valsalva associated with previously undiagnosed Marfan syndrome caused extrinsic compression of the esophagus, resulting in dysphagia unrelated to the type or timing of meals. Our report focuses on the initial clinical presentation, as well as the diagnosis and management of this rare lesion.

A functional simian virus 40 origin of replication is required for the generation of a super T antigen with a molecular weight of 100,000 in transformed mouse cells.

We used two recombinant plasmids, one containing wild-type simian virus 40 DNA (pSVR1) and the other containing a simian virus 40 genome with a defective origin of replication (pSVR1-origin-minus) to transfect NIH3T3 cells. Quantitation of T-antigen synthesis by indirect immunofluorescence at 48 h after transfection with either DNA revealed the same percentage of T-positive nuclei. The transformation frequencies observed were also similar with both plasmids.
