The development of granulomas with central necrosis harboring Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) is the hallmark of human tuberculosis (TB). New anti-TB therapies need to effectively penetrate the cellular and necrotic compartments of these lesions and reach sufficient concentrations to eliminate Mtb. BTZ-043 is a novel antibiotic showing good bactericidal activity in humans in a phase IIa trial.

We aimed to assess the safety, bactericidal activity, and pharmacokinetics of BTZ-043, a first-in-class DprE1 inhibitor with strong bactericidal activity in murine models.
Methods: This open-label, dose-expansion, randomised, controlled, phase 1b/2a trial was conducted in two specialised tuberculosis sites in Cape Town, South Africa.
Background And Hypothesis: The kidneys may be susceptible to ectopic fat and its lipotoxic effects, disposing them to chronic kidney disease (CKD) in type 2 diabetes (T2D). We investigated whether the kidney parenchyma fat content and kidney sinus fat volume would be higher in persons with T2D and CKD.
Methods: Cross-sectional study including 29 controls, 27 persons with T2D and no CKD, and 48 persons with T2D and early CKD (urine albumin creatinine ratio (UACR) ≥ 30 mg/g).
Cardiac myxomas in the right ventricle are a very rare condition. In this case report, we describe an exceptionally uncommon case involving a right ventricular cardiac myxoma, originating from a papillary muscle, extending to both the tricuspid valve and the right atrium. The valve was able to be repaired via artificial chorda implantation.
