A percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) was placed by the "pull technique" in a 67-year old patient before initiation of palliative radiation therapy of a gastric adenocarcinoma invading the distal esophagus. A tumor metastasis developed in the peristomal area and around the gastrocutaneous fistula tract; it was most likely caused by implantation of tumor tissue adhering to the PEG tube. This complication of PEG placement appears to be very rare.

The amino acid sequence of the myoglobin of the South American Night Monkey, Aotes trivirgatus, is identical to that of the marmoset (Callithrix jacchus [1]) except for residue 21 which is isoleucine in the marmoset, like in all other anthropoids, but valine in Aotes. Analysis of a possible pathway of the evolution of Aotes myoglobin using 18 known primate myoglobin sequences [2-5] supports the classification of the Night Monkey within Anthropoidea and Platyrrhini but it indicates that this species might be more closely related to the marmoset (family Callitrichidae) than to the family Cebidae as a member of which it is commonly classified.

By means of the immunoprecipitation method significantly higher activities of creatine kinase BB isoenzyme were measured in the sera of neonates with CNS symptoms than in the sera of healthy or sick neonates without CNS symptoms. The activity of CK-BB inversely correlated with the one-minute Apgar score. These results suggest a leakage of CK-BB from the damaged CNS tissue into the blood circulation.

Incubation of CK-BB in serum (1:3, v/v) at 37 degrees C for 3 h caused a change of its electrophoretic mobility and decay of its catalytic activity. Similar effects were observed following incubation in water. Incubation in saline somehow preserved the electrophoretic mobility but not the catalytic activity.
