Liver transplantation (LTX) using donors after controlled circulatory death (cDCD) is associated with poorer graft survival and increased incidence of nonanastomotic biliary strictures (NASs) compared to livers procured from brain-dead donors (DBD). The use of normothermic regional perfusion (NRP) during cDCD procurement may improve posttransplant outcomes and reduce the incidence of NAS. In Sweden, cDCD LTX was introduced through a national pilot protocol with mandatory NRP.

Clinical determination of oxygen saturation (sO) in patients is commonly performed via non-invasive optical techniques. However, reliance on a few wavelengths and some form of pre-determined calibration introduces limits to how these methods can be used. One example involves the assessment of sO after injection of local anesthetic using epinephrine, where some controversy exists around the time it takes for the epinephrine to have an effect.

Objective: The aim was to optimize diagnostics for carotid artery calcifications (CACs) on panoramic radiographs (PRs) to identify cardiovascular disease (CVD) by investigating how 4 defined CAC shapes are associated with ultrasound (US) findings indicating CVD.

Study Design: The study included 414 participants (802 neck sides) from the Malmö Offspring Dental Study, examined with PRs. The PRs were assessed for CAC shapes stratified into 4 categories: single, scattered, vessel-width defining, and vessel-outlining.
