Using touch-screen technology to assess smoking in a low-income primary care clinic: a pilot study.

This pilot study examined the use of a touch-screen tablet personal computer to assess smoking and alcohol use among low-income primary care patients (N = 100) and tested cross-method consistency with a paper assessment. Data were collected in 2009. A touch-screen survey assessed smoking, alcohol use, partner smoking, and acceptability.

Promoting information sharing for multijurisdictional public health emergency preparedness.

Objective: The objective was to assess the planning needs of emergency management and public health professionals to provide a flexible and comprehensive planning tool.

Design: This study first assessed the needs of emergency management and public health professionals via an online survey. On the basis of results of the assessment, pertinent information was collected and organized into an online resource tool.

The bile acid binding and hypocholesterolemic action of two water-soluble polymers.

The in vitro bile acid binding properties of 2 water-soluble, linear, cationic resins, poly-[(dimethylimino)trimethylene chloride] or 3,3-ione C1, and poly-diallyldimethylammonium chloride) or CAT-FLOC were determined. Both polymers were substantially more active than cholestyramine. All were compared for hypocholesterolemic effect in normo-cholesterolemic dogs.
