The spinal accessory nerve and its entry point into the posterior triangle of the neck.

Background: The course of the spinal accessory nerve in the neck is long and superficial rendering it at high risk of injury during procedures performed in the posterior triangle. The majority of spinal accessory nerve injuries are iatrogenic in nature. This is associated with significant morbidity including reduction in shoulder movements, drooping of the shoulder, winging of the scapula and neuropathic pain.

Synchronous airway lesions in children with severe, progressive and atypical laryngomalacia - Experience of a UK tertiary referral centre.

Objectives: Laryngomalacia is the commonest cause of stridor in the paediatric population. Whilst usually self-limiting, studies have suggested that the presence of synchronous airway lesions (SALs) might be associated with more severe clinical presentation and additional morbidity. However, evidence in the literature is scarce, contributing to controversy regarding the appropriate investigation and management of children with laryngomalacia.

Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) submandibular abscess in a neonate.

Neonatal suppurative submandibular sialadenitis and abscess formation is an exceedingly rare entity. This report describes a complex case of a male neonate with a methicillin-resistant (MRSA) submandibular abscess, requiring emergency intubation due to acute airway compromise. The patient was admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit, received appropriate antibiotic treatment and underwent urgent surgical drainage of the abscess.

Tracheostomy in the coronavirus disease 2019 patient: evaluating feasibility, challenges and early outcomes of the 14-day guidance.

Objectives: To report feasibility, early outcomes and challenges of implementing a 14-day threshold for undertaking surgical tracheostomy in the critically ill coronavirus disease 2019 patient.

Methods: Twenty-eight coronavirus disease 2019 patients underwent tracheostomy. Demographics, risk factors, ventilatory assistance, organ support and logistics were assessed.

Kimura's disease of the parotid gland with cutaneous features in a Caucasian female patient.

Kimura's disease is a rare disease of unknown aetiology, commonly presenting with slow-growing head and neck subcutaneous nodules, lymphadenopathy, eosinophilia and elevated immunoglobulin E. This report describes a very rare case of a 41-year-old female, of White-British ethnicity, with a new diagnosis of Kimura's disease of the parotid gland and associated cutaneous features. The patient was investigated for 3 years before a diagnosis of Kimura's disease was reached.
