We propose obtaining TiO films by ICPCVD for the fabrication of low-loss waveguides. The challenge is to produce a dense and homogeneous layer with a high refractive index and low absorption in the visible range. Crystallized layers with features such as grains and amorphous layers have a rather low index for the application targeted, so we aimed for an intermediate state.

Colloidal bismuth therapeutics have been used for hundreds of years, yet remain mysterious. Here we report an X-ray pair distribution function (PDF) study of the solvolysis of bismuth disalicylate, a model for the metallodrug bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol). This reveals catalysis by traces of water, followed by multistep cluster growth.

A novel porous coordination polymer [Mn(pc3)(HO)]·xHO (3 < x < 4) is synthesized in water at pH = 7 using the anionic viologen-carboxylate ligand 4,4'-bipyridinium,1,1'-bis-(2,4-dicarboxyphenyl) (pc3). Dehydration of the material results in the formation of open pores containing two types of accessible Lewis acid sites: exposed Mn cations and N atoms of viologen units. Due to this property the PCP shows high affinity and capacity in the adsorption of HO, CO and NH.

In this study, the removal/precipitation of selenium with sodium sulfide from initially weakly acidic sulfate solutions containing 300 mg/L of selenium(IV) at 23 °C was studied. The results showed that, below a pH of approximately 7.0, the precipitation reaction was complete at a sulfide to selenium ratio above 1.
