Background And Purpose: MAPKs are among the most relevant signalling pathways involved in coordinating cell responses to different stimuli. This group includes p38MAPKs, constituted by 4 different proteins with a high sequence homology: MAPK14 (p38α), MAPK11 (p38β), MAPK12 (p38γ) and MAPK13 (p38δ). Despite their high similarity, each member shows unique expression patterns and even exclusive functions.

Article Synopsis
  • Over the past 30 years, research on how cells respond to ionizing radiation (IR) has significantly expanded, particularly focusing on the p38 MAPK signaling pathway.
  • p38 MAPK is activated by IR and is involved in crucial cellular processes like cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, and senescence, but its exact role in determining radioresistance or sensitivity remains unclear.
  • This review aims to summarize what we know about the p38 MAPK family in the context of IR, including their involvement in REDOX control, fibrosis, and the potential to enhance radiotherapy effects through specific compounds.

In the present research, an orange extract (OE) was obtained and encapsulated in a zein matrix for its subsequent physicochemical characterization and evaluation of its antioxidant capacity. The OE consists of phenolic compounds and flavonoids extracted from orange peel () by ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE). The results obtained by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicated that zein nanoparticles with orange extract (NpZOE) presented a nanometric size and spherical shape, presenting a hydrodynamic diameter of 159.

Article Synopsis
  • Sarcomas are a type of tumor, and scientists are trying to understand how a protein called ERK5 affects them by using a mouse model.
  • They found that this ERK5 protein increases in certain muscle-related sarcomas, both in mice and in humans.
  • When they reduced the amount of ERK5 in lab-grown cells, the tumors grew less, which suggests that targeting ERK5 might help treat these cancers better in people.

Quick meals available in markets are popular among consumers. Generally, these products are not recognized as functional foods owing to nutrient-poor composition. In this study, energy snack bars were developed with different formulations, using puffed quinoa, amaranth, cacao liquor, and coconut oil, and the effects of the addition of commercial vegetal mixtures (VM) on nutritional and functional properties were assessed.
