The phase state of heterogeneous systems prepared on the basis of mixtures of hydrophobic and hydrophilic silica and water, depending on the ratio of component concentrations, and their using as thixotropic agents has been studied. It was found that the dependence of the interfacial energy of water with the surface of the particles of the composite system made on the basis of hydrophilic and hydrophobic silica taken in the proportion of 1:1 as for the individually taken AM-1 has a bell-shaped form with peaks at  = 3 and 1.5 g/g, respectively.

The antiviral activity of nonfunctionalized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) against herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) in vitro was revealed in this study. We found that AuNPs are capable of reducing the cytopathic effect (CPE) of HSV-1 in Vero cells in a dose- and time-dependent manner when used in pretreatment mode. The demonstrated antiviral activity was within the nontoxic concentration range of AuNPs.

The Chernobyl accident heavily contaminated the largest aquatic system in the Ukraine, requiring the development of a model-based decision support system in the field of aquatic radioecology. The main objectives of the system were to simulate and predict radionuclide dispersion in the Pripyat-Dnieper River-reservoir system, assess the effectiveness of special hydraulic countermeasures designed to decrease the rate of radionuclide dispersion in the water bodies, and support the Dnieper reservoirs' management operations. A hierarchy of mathematical models was developed.

Immunosorption activity in reference to antirhesus antibodies, of UV-irradiated Rh-positive preserved blood as well as of red blood cell pack and leucocytic-thrombocytic suspension prepared from this blood, was studied in varying terms after irradiation. The whole blood and red blood cell pack immunosorption activity significantly increased immediately after irradiation. The effect lasted during two days.
