Article Synopsis
  • - This study compares the outcomes of Central Liver Segments Resection (CLSR) and Extended Hepatectomy (EH) in children with liver tumors, noting that CLSR is less common due to its technical complexity yet is successful in adults.
  • - The research involved analyzing data from 14 patients who underwent CLSR and 44 who had EH, focusing on factors like liver remnant volume, blood loss, operation time, and postoperative complications.
  • - Results showed that while CLSR preserves more liver tissue and has similar intraoperative and postoperative outcomes compared to EH, it takes longer to perform; both methods have comparable complication rates.

Objective: To analyze the initial data on future liver remnant volume and its function evaluated by Tc-Bromesida hepatobiliary scintigraphy in children with liver tumors.

Material And Methods: Extended liver resections were performed in 58 patients aged 2 months - 208 months (median 26 months) for various neoplasms. Before hepatectomy, all children underwent contrast-enhanced CT with volumetry and hepatobiliary scintigraphy with Tc-Bromezida and subsequent quantitative assessment of its accumulation in the future liver remnant.

Large and giant tumors, especially hepatoblastomas, are more frequently presented in pediatric patients. At about two-third of hepatoblastomas at the time of diagnosis are unresectable and liver transplantation is considered as a treatment of choice because of insufficient future liver remnant volume. In selected cases, 2-staged hepatectomy may be the unique chance for curative resection except hepatectomy followed by liver replacement.

The diisopropylammonium chloride (CHClN, DIPAC) and diisopropylammonium bromide (CHBrN, DIPAB) molecular crystals are recently discovered ferroelectrics with sufficiently high spontaneous polarization and Curie temperature. We performed first studies of these crystals by C NMR. CP MAS spectra were collected within large temperature ranges covering the Curie points.
