Lymphoepithelial Subtype of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Report of an EBV-Negative Case and Literature Review.

Lymphoepithelial carcinoma (LEC) of the oral mucosa is a rare histopathologic subtype of squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), which shares morphologic similarities with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), non-keratinizing undifferentiated subtype. The admixture of neoplastic epithelial tumor cells and a dense lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate makes microscopic diagnosis challenging. LEC etiopathogenesis has been variably associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, depending on the specific anatomic location and racial predilection, with a higher incidence in endemic populations.

Medical practitioners' educational competence about oral and oropharyngeal carcinoma: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Medical practitioners' (MP) role is pivotal in primary prevention, early diagnosis, prompt referral and effective management of oral and oropharyngeal carcinomas (OC/OPC), which raises the importance of their effective OC/OPC education at all levels of medical education. The purpose of this systematic review was to summarise the available scientific evidence about their educational competence in dealing with OC/OPC. We made a systematic search of papers in the English language in MEDLINE, Scopus, Cochrane Library CENTRAL and CINAHL databases from their inception until December 2018.

Acute Hyponasality (Closed Rhinolalia) and Craniomaxillofacial Fracture Suggest the Coexistence of Retropharyngeal Emphysema and Pneumomediastinum.

Pneumomediastinum (PM) implies an abnormal condition where a collection of free air or gas is entrapped within the fascial planes of mediastinal cavity. It is considered as benign entity, but an uncommonly seen complication of craniofacial injuries. We report a case of a 63-year-old male patient with the presenting sign of closed rhinolalia who was diagnosed with retropharyngeal emphysema and PM due to a linear and nondisplaced fracture of midface.

Multiple primary squamous cell carcinomas of the lower lip and tongue arising in discoid lupus erythematosus: a case report.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) developing in lesions of discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE) is rare, most frequently arising on sun-exposed skin and very rarely affecting the lips. A review of the English language literature revealed only 21 published cases of labial SCC in patients with DLE. Here, an unusual case of a patient with DLE who developed 3 primary SCCs of the oral and perioral region is presented.
