Stake holder perspectives on the role of accredited social health activists (ASHAs) in Indian public mental healthcare space: A qualitative study.

Background: Community health workers such as Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) are existing resources who can facilitate the bridging of the mental health treatment gap. Knowing about the perspectives of ASHAs in delivering mental health care and other professionals with experience working in the area of community mental health is imperative.

Method: As part of an implementation research project aimed at comparing the effectiveness of two training methods for community health workers (ASHAs), we conducted five focussed group discussions including four with ASHAs ( = 34) and one with other stakeholders ( = 10).

Outcome of Treatment in Verrucous Carcinoma of Oral Cavity: A Tertiary Rural Hospital Experience.

Verrucous carcinoma of oral cavity is a highly well differentiated variant of squamous cell carcinoma with a low potential for invasion and metastasis. It is prevalent in the tobacco quid chewing population in our region. In this observational study, we reviewed the medical case records of 58 patients treated for oral verrucous carcinoma staged T2 to T4a.

Choanal Polyps Originating from Unusual Sites: A Rural Tertiary Care Center Experience.

 Choanal polyps are benign lesions arising from the sinonasal mucosa, extending through the choana into the nasopharynx. Though polyps arising from the maxillary sinus and extending to the choana are common, polyps arising from the sphenoid sinus ostium, posterior part of middle turbinate, and inferior and middle meatus are quite uncommon.  To document the site of origin of choanal polyps arising from unusual sites; their clinical, radiological, and histopathological characteristics, as well as diagnostic challenges and management.

Identification of a potential inhibitor for New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase 1 (NDM-1) from FDA approved chemical library- a drug repurposing approach to combat carbapenem resistance.

Superbugs producing New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase 1 (NDM-1) enzyme is a growing crisis, that is adversely affecting the global health care system. NDM-1 empowers the bacteria to inactivate entire arsenal of β-lactam antibiotics including carbapenem (the last resort antibiotic) and remains ineffective to all the available β lactamase inhibitors used in the clinics. Limited therapeutic option available for rapidly disseminating NDM-1 producing bacteria makes it imperative to identify a potential inhibitor for NDM-1 enzyme.

Outcome of Treatment in Locally Advanced Upper Alveolar Carcinoma Extending to Infra-temporal Fossa.

Squamous cell carcinoma of oral cavity has a high prevalence in our region. Upper alveolar cancers are uncommon but present with locally advanced disease extending to infra temporal fossa. The outcome of treatment in these tumors is poor.
