Differential expression of quick-to-court gene isoforms in Drosophila male and female.

The quick-to-court (qtc) gene is expressed in both males and females but affects only the mating behavior of males, probably due to the different composition of isoforms between the sexes. We tested this hypothesis and examined the sex-specific expression of qtc transcripts in the tissues of male and female Oregon-R flies. It was found that some qtc transcripts, such as qtc-RM and qtc-RN, are testis-specific, while others like qtc-RH are found in ovaries but absent in testes.

Seasonal Dynamics of Fruit Flies (Diptera: Drosophilidae) in Natural Parks of Moscow City, Russia.

The insect fauna of natural parks in large cities has not been sufficiently studied in Russia. This study represents the first investigation of the seasonal dynamics and species diversity of Drosophilidae in Moscow city. Traps with fermenting liquid were placed on the ground under trees to collect flies from four natural park sites between early May and late September from 2021 to 2023.

Transient Interphase Microtubules Appear in Differentiating Sponge Cells.

Microtubules are an indispensable component of all eukaryotic cells due to their role in mitotic spindle formation, yet their organization and number can vary greatly in the interphase. The last common ancestor of all eukaryotes already had microtubules and microtubule motor proteins moving along them. Sponges are traditionally regarded as the oldest animal phylum.

[Characteristics of δ-Aminolevulinic Acid Dehydratase of the Cold-Water Sponge Halisarca dujardinii].

δ-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) is a key enzyme of the cytoplasmic heme biosynthesis pathway. The primary structure of the ALAD gene, the multimeric structure of the ALAD/hemB protein, and ALAD expression during the annual reproductive cycle were studied in the cold-water marine sponge Halisarca dujardinii. The results implicated the GATA-1 transcription factor and DNA methylation in regulating ALAD expression.

Vertical Distribution of Fruit Flies (Diptera: Drosophilidae) in Deciduous Forests in the Center of European Russia.

Research of Diptera in temperate forests has demonstrated uneven vertical distributions of insects. In this study, we examined the vertical distribution, seasonal fluctuations, and species diversity of Drosophilidae species in the Mordovia State Reserve. This research marks the first exploration of drosophilid vertical stratification in the European part of Russia.
