Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the phenotypic and genotypic traits of Pinzgauer cattle from different elevations in the Carpathian Mountains, focusing on lowland, highland, and alpine farms.
  • High variability in blood groups among the cattle was discovered, indicating diverse genetic characteristics within these populations.
  • The genetic structure of the highland Pinzgauer group showed similarities to Brown Carpathian cattle, likely due to shared ecological and geographical environments.

A wide range of variation in immunogenetic and biochemical markers was found in thoroughbred Brown Carpathian cattle. Comparative analysis of genetic structure of Brown Carpathian and Swiss cattle, as well as various hybrids of these two breeds, with respect to polymorphic biochemical systems, demonstrated that all hybrids having any gene admixture of the Brown Carpathian breed formed a single cluster in a dendrogram and were readily distinguishable from thoroughbred Swiss cattle. Originally, the Swiss breed participated in forming the gene pool of Brown Carpathian cattle.

Approximately in 80% of cow oocytes (n = 632) ended cytoplasmatic and nucleus maturation to the state of metaphase II in the conditions of 24 hours in vitro cultivation. In 300 oocytes cytochemically we have determined the activity of enzymes--the succinate dehydrogenase (SDH, EC 1.3.
