The direct observation of the morphological changes in silicon-based negative electrode (Si-based negative electrode) materials during battery charging and discharging is useful for handling such materials and in electrode plate design. We developed an operando scanning electron microscopy (operando SEM) technique to quantitatively evaluate the expansion and contraction of Si-based negative electrode materials. A small all-solid-state lithium-ion battery was charged and discharged, and the expansion/contraction of particles while harnessing capacity was observed using SEM.

Article Synopsis
  • A two-year-old male Ban'ei horse was found to have eight cestodes, identified as Anoplocephala perfoliata based on their physical features.
  • Genetic analysis showed that the COI sequences of these worms were nearly identical to those found in European horses, indicating a close relationship.
  • This study is significant as it is the first report of A. perfoliata infection in a Japanese draft horse, suggesting the parasite was brought to Japan along with European horses in the early 1900s.

We prepared a supramolecular hydrogel composed of decanoic acid and arginine (C10/Arg gel) and evaluated its application to a transdermal formulation. C10/Arg gel adjusted to pH 7 with 1 M NaOH aq or 1 M HCl aq provided a translucent hydrogel with a lamellar liquid crystal structure in the concentration region of decanoic acid ≥12% and arginine ≤9%. Rheological measurements showed that C10/Arg gel is a viscoelastic material with both solid and liquid properties, with elasticity being dominant over viscosity in the low shear stress region.

Background: Distillery vinasse is one of the promising bio-fertilizers, as it contains significant amounts of essential chemical elements, allied with sorghum that is widely used in the diet of ruminant animals and has been considered as an alternative to the production of other cereals or forages. This study aimed to evaluate saccharin sorghum silage from fertilization with vinasse.

Methods: The research was conducted using the BRS-511, CR-1339, and CR-1342 geno-types.

Article Synopsis
  • Equine testicular arteritis can result from nematode larvae migration or equine arteritis virus (EAV) infection, but cases without these infections exist, and their causes are not fully understood.
  • A 3-year-old male heavy draft horse exhibited scrotal enlargement due to testicular arteritis that was not linked to known infections, showing significant edema in the pampiniform plexus.
  • Histological examination revealed non-suppurative and necrotizing arteritis, with lymphocyte infiltration and arterial wall damage, yet the underlying reason for the condition remained undetermined.
