Purpose: The demographic transition toward aging heralds an increase in the number of geriatric patients with cancer in India. Comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) is a sine qua non for treatment planning and shared decision making in these patients. We aimed to study the prevalence of malnutrition and the associated risk factors in geriatric patients with solid organ cancer.

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a chronic and progressive condition that afflicts patients of all ages, including neonates. Previously, we reported that neonatal pigs fed formulas rich in medium-chain (MCFA), compared with those fed formulas rich in long-chain fatty acid (LCFA) for 21 d, developed panacinar steatosis with no changes in whole-body adiposity.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to examine the temporal onset and development of NAFLD in neonatal pigs in response to MCFA feeding.

Hereditary macular dystrophies (HMDs) are a genetically diverse group of disorders that cause central vision loss due to photoreceptor and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) damage. We investigated a family with a presumed novel autosomal-dominant HMD characterized by faint, hypopigmented RPE changes involving the central retina. Genome and RNA sequencing identified the disease-causing variant to be a 560 kb tandem duplication on chromosome 17 [NC_000017.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) prevalence is increasing annually and affects over a third of US adults. MASLD can progress to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), characterized by severe hepatocyte injury, inflammation, and eventual advanced fibrosis or cirrhosis. MASH is predicted to become the primary cause of liver transplant by 2030.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a range of disorders characterized by lipid accumulation in hepatocytes. Although this spectrum of disorders is associated with adult obesity, recent evidence suggests that this condition could also occur independently of obesity, even in children. Previously, we reported that pigs fed a formula containing medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) developed hepatic steatosis and weighed less than those fed an isocaloric formula containing long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs).
