Objective: Patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) will have a baseline hypercoagulable state and an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Few data are available regarding the efficacy of standard prophylaxis in preventing VTE after noncardiovascular surgery for patients with SCD. Our objective was to investigate the incidence of VTE in patients with SCD who had undergone noncardiovascular surgery.

On recruitment, patients responded most frequently and with the highest numbers of responding cells to the L1 region aa 311-345 and this response was significantly associated with the presence of cervical disease (P=0.041).

The diagnostic utility of technique in diagnosing a sizable minority of WG patients who present with cervical lymphadenopathy is discussed. We outline an approach to diagnosis of necrotising granulomatous lesions in aspirates from lymph nodes in a tabular form.
