Objectives: This study aimed to develop a prediction model for feeding tube dependence in a large homogenous cohort of HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPV + OPSCC) patients receiving chemoradiotherapy (CRT). We further aimed to externally validate three previously published feeding tube prediction models on this cohort.

Materials And Methods: p16-confirmed HPV + OPSCC patients treated with definitive CRT at a tertiary cancer centre between April 2017 and February 2022 were identified.

This study aimed to characterize the role of female sex in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy. In the retinae of female Ins2Akita-diabetic mice (F-IA), ovariectomized female Ins2Akita-diabetic mice (F-IA/OVX), male Ins2Akita-diabetic mice (M-IA), and female STZ-diabetic mice (F-STZ), the formation of reactive metabolites and post-translational modifications, damage to the neurovascular unit, and expression of cellular stress response genes were analyzed. Compared to the male diabetic retina, the concentrations of the glycation adduct fructosyl-lysine, the Maillard product 3-deoxyglucosone, and the reactive metabolite methylglyoxal were significantly reduced in females.

Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI), induced by conditions such as cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, and Crohn's disease, is a frequently overlooked and underdiagnosed gastrointestinal disorder. It leads to inadequate intestinal digestion due to insufficient secretion of pancreatic juice, resulting in discomfort, pain, and ultimately severe malnutrition. Despite numerous treatments proving ineffective over the past three decades, a strictly hydrophobic solid lipid formulation, administered orally, is proposed in this study to restore digestive function.

Desmosomes are intercellular adhesion complexes providing mechanical coupling and tissue integrity. Previously, a correlation of desmosomal molecule expression with invasion and metastasis formation in several tumor entities was described together with a relevance for circulating tumor cell cluster formation. Here, we investigated the contribution of the desmosomal core adhesion molecule desmoglein-2 (DSG2) to the initial steps of liver metastasis formation by pancreatic cancer cells using a novel ex vivo liver perfusion mouse model.
